On inauguration weekend, we talk to two gals podcasting their way across America to D.C. Then we hit the history books with the hosts of Presidents Are People, Too! and Presidential. Plus, we learn what Ezra Klein thinks POTUS 45 should be listening to (Hint: Ezra Klein.)
Hey, pals! Have you ever felt like there is just too much to listen to out there? I have, and I host a stinkin’ show about the medium!
Well, for friend-of-The-Big-Listen Jason Inofuentes, too much is never enough. This guy listens to practically every show out there. Including the GAO Watchdog Report. Seriously, his playlist is about 100 shows long. To get it all in, he listens a lot on one-and-a-half speed. I’m guessing I sound better that way. On this week’s show, Jason gives us the scoop on his obsessive listening habits.
What Else Is On This Week’s Show?
Remember back in elementary school when you had sleepovers with your friends and told each other secrets and put fake bugs in each other’s sleeping bags? Well, there’s a newish podcast that recreates those slumber parties of youth, minus the bugs in the sleeping bag. Sleepover, hosted by Sook-Yin Lee, invites three strangers to spend the night in a hotel room and talk about their problems and try to get to the bottom of them. It’s like reality TV, but on the radio and with fewer fights.
Back in the day, calling someone a nerd was pretty terrible. These days, it’s a badge of honor. Nerds are now cool! And no one knows that more than the hosts of Nerdette. Greta Johnsen and Tricia Bodeba are the very definition of the word, “nerd.” And their show celebrates folks like them — people with deep passions for all kinds of things. Musical theater, math, Dr. Who — you name it and they’ve probably nerded out over it.
Speaking of nerds, Jesse Thorn of Bullseye totally fits the bill. He lets us rifle through his extensive playlist to see what kind of podcasts he’s into. He recommended:
- Stop Podcasting Yourself
- Beef and Dairy Network Podcast
- The Best Show
- The New Yorker Radio Hour
- On The Media
So check ‘em out!
- Very attractive listener recommendations for this week: Negroes With A Podcast and Here Be Monsters.
- As we do each week, let’s check the charts! Or rather, the 289th-ranked podcast on iTunes: Jalen & Jacoby. It’s a sports talk show for the podcast crowd…and by that I mean with less screaming.
- Best podcast title of the week: My Dad Wrote A Porno.
Do you have a podcast recommendation you’d like to share with us? We want to hear it! Give us a jingle on the Pod Line at 202-885-POD1 and leave a message. Then we’ll put you on the radio and you’ll be famous.
Thanks for reading, pals! ‘Til next time…keep listening, America.
